    Bell Time Implementation Task Force

    In response to the bell time feasibility study conducted from November 2014 to October 2015, including engagement with students, families, school staff, and partners, on the changing of school bell times and potential impacts, the Seattle School Board adopted new Transportation Service Standards that would revise arrival and departure times for the 2016-17 school year.

    While the bell time change is exciting in many ways, it is presenting some significant logistical, scheduling, and programmatic challenges.  To problem solve and mitigate any potentially negative impacts, the District will continue to build on the feedback from schools, families and community members on the impact by engaging schools, community-based organizations (CBOs), District departments/programs, City of Seattle officials and school communities to beginning the important planning and analysis phase of implementation.   This includes the formation of the Bell Time Implementation Task Force.

    The task force members will build on the work of the Bell Times Analysis Task Force by:

    • Reviewing the bell time changes for the 2016-17 school year
    • Studying issues related to the implementation of bell time changes and identify areas of potential adverse impact and/or opportunities for improvement
    • Developing mitigation strategy options for issues related to bell time changes

    Task force members will consist of Seattle Public Schools staff and community members including parent representatives.  The appointment to the task force will be for three (3) months, with five (5) meetings to be held, unless specific otherwise.  The first meeting with be in late February.
