    Posted on 11/15/2018

This month Nicole Fitch, Special Education Director of School-Based Services, led a professional development session for school leaders (principals and assistant principals) from around the district, highlighting the importance of effectively supporting students receiving special education services. Director Fitch shared data around outcomes for students receiving special education services. She emphasized the power of a coordinated partnership among school-based staff, families, and district departments and how working together can “move the needle” for students with disabilities.

Nicole Fitch"It is crucial that every student in a school feels like a valued contributor to the community. That is the basis of inclusion," says Fitch.

School leaders spent the morning discussing their unique school environments and sharing their strategies around implementing inclusive practices at their schools. They also posed questions that will form the topic of future professional development sessions. Data-driven conversations and collaboration between building leaders and district leadership will continue throughout the year to better improve experiences and outcomes for students receiving special education services.
