Elementary, Middle and High School Summer Learning Options
Seattle Public Schools offers summer learning programs to help students gain critical academic skills.
In Summer 2015, a study was conducted in 30 summer learning program offerings at 11 school sites in Seattle. Key findings include:
On average, SPS summer program offerings demonstrate high levels of instructional quality compared to summer programs in other cities. Programs were also well attended.
Embedded assessments for math and literacy suggest that most students improved academic skills during the summer program cycle.

Elementary: Summer Staircase
Summer Staircase is a high quality program for students currently in kindergarten through fourth grade, offered at 20 sites around the city.
When: June 28 - July 28, 2017, Monday - Friday, times vary by site. No school 7/4.
Where: 18 sites; students placed closest to home address.
Who: All students welcome; preference given to students below grade level as determined by MAP, Amplify or Smarter Balanced assessments.
Cost: Free (Breakfast and lunch are provided)
Transportation: Provided to students who live outside of a one-mile radius to a Summer Staircase site.
Attendance: Students may not miss more than three days.
Before/After Care: Not included. Contact community center or outside child care provider for options.
How to register: Contact your child's teacher or the interventionist at your child's school.
