    September Community Meetings for 2019 Levies

    Seattle Public Schools to host five community meetings to discuss the Operations Levy and the Building Excellence V Capital Levy.

    Seattle Public Schools is hosting community meetings in September to share information about our upcoming Operations Levy and our Building Excellence V (BEX V) Capital Levy, both to be submitted to Seattle voters in February 2019.

    Operations Levy

    The Operations Levy, renewed every three years, replaces the expiring levy approved by Seattle voters in 2016. This levy helps fund day-to-day operations and pays for critical programs and services that are not fully funded by the state.

    The Operations Levy pays for:

    • School safety and security programs and staff not paid for by the state
    • School counselors, nurses and psychologists not paid for by the state
    • A large part of our special education and bilingual education services
    • Some textbooks and classroom supplies 
    • Student activities, such as music, art, athletics and extracurricular programs

    Building Excellence V Capital Levy

    The Building Excellence V (BEX V) Capital Levy, renewed every six years, replaces the expiring levy approved by voters in 2013. BEX V would fund capital improvements including projects to modernize or replace aging buildings, fund technology for student learning, district infrastructure and security.

    BEX V Capital Levy pays for:

    • Capacity projects such as building or replacing schools
    • Condition projects, such as: modernizing school buildings; installing safety and security systems in school buildings
    • Completing earthquake safety/seismic upgrades for school buildings
    • Providing classroom technology and technology infrastructure
    • Making capital improvements to meet the educational needs for students and staff
    • Upgrading athletic fields and tracks

    Staff members will present information, ask for input and feedback, and answer questions.

    Thurs., Sept. 20: Mercer Middle School Lunchroom 1600 S Columbian Way

    Mon., Sept. 24: Roosevelt High School Lunchroom 1410 NE 66th St.

    Tues., Sept. 25: Meany Middle School lunchroom 301 21st Ave. East
