    Outdoor and Community Education Pilots

    Planning for outdoor and community education pilots is currently underway. Resolution No. 2020/21-4PDF icon, approved by the SPS Board of Directors in August, called for outdoor/community education pilots to begin in the 2020-21 school year to inform the work of a future Community/Outdoor Education Task Force.

    Each pilot must be well planned beforehand and thoroughly evaluated after completion. The educator will be responsible for planning the logistics and instruction just as if class was conducted in school or remotely. All students within the class or school group must be given the opportunity to participate in the pilot. Similar to planning for a field trip or other offsite activity, space planning, safety, COVID-19 precautions, accessibility and other logistics will need to be considered.

    If educators and school leaders are interested in running an outdoor/community education pilot, they will need to complete the Outdoor Education Interest Form below.

    Proposals approved by the building principal will then be reviewed by a cross-departmental team at the John Stanford Center for Educational Excellence and SEA. If approved by the JSCEE cross-departmental team, all parties will be informed and the pilot can begin. Approved pilots will complete a monthly report for the purposes of informing the Community/Outdoor Education Task Force.

    The form will need to be completed by both the teacher and the school building leader/teacher team. All interested educators and school leaders are encouraged to apply!
