School leaders share best practices at SLI

Over 200 Seattle Public Schools leaders and district staff gathered at West Seattle High School for the annual Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) in preparation for the upcoming 2018-19 academic year.

Over the course of three days, administrators receive the latest in district updates, learn from their colleagues through networking and workshops, and collaborate on school initiatives. The event serves as one of the few venues where representation from each school can come together and hear what’s happening at other school sites. New school leaders and veterans share wisdom, resources and best practice through peer-to-peer connection.

This year’s institute started with a bang, thanks to a kick-off by the All-City band and a welcome to the new year from Superintendent Denise Juneau who emphasized the importance of true partnership in the style of building a longer table, not a higher wall.

The goal of the three days is for school leaders to head back to their respective school sites with developed strategies to support educational excellence for each and every Seattle Public Schools student.
