    Youth and Family Racial Justice Summit
    Together As One We Can Get It Done

    SPS middle and high school students (ages 14-20), as well as their families are invited to the first annual Seattle Public Schools Youth and Family Racial Justice Summit.  This is a student created and student led event. The planning committee includes representatives from the NAACP Youth Coalition and students from across the district that are committed to advancing racial justice.

    The summit will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 – 3 p.m. at Chief Sealth International High School. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m.

    The summit’s purpose is to:

    • Activate the activism in each person; providing tools and resources to advance racial justice in Seattle Public Schools and the community;
    • Provide youth networking opportunities; and
    • Build a larger coalition for racial justice and affecting change.

    The exciting summit program is organized into two distinct parts. The first part of the day will focus on the issue of racial injustice. The second half of the day centers on activism, organizing for change, and the role of arts in social justice.
    Workshop presenters and speakers will include youth, community partners, artists, and community organizers.

    Michael Bennett, former Seattle Seahawk, and co-founder of the Bennett Foundation with his wife Pele, will be in attendance to present the Black Education Matters Student Activist Award. Additional special guests may be in attendance.

    Education Award Nominations

    The program will also include the Racial Justice Educator of the Year Award and will be presented by students. The community can submit their award nominations here: Nominate an educator today!
