Helping Children Prepare for Preschool and Kindergarten

Key Fall 2021 Preschool and Kindergarten Dates

    • August 17-18: Jump Start Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Activities will focus on social-emotional learning and welcoming families. Please note: check with your student's school for confirmation of Jump Start dates and times.
    • September 1-3: Family Connections, individual teacher and family conferences
    • September 7-8: PreK-K Connects, teacher and family meetings to plan with families, offer resources, technology support, and more
    • September 9: First day of whole group instruction for all preschool and kindergarten students.
      • This first day change was approved by the School Board because the previously scheduled first day of instruction conflicted with Rosh Hashanah

Family Connection Visits for Preschool and Kindergarten

All SPS preschool and kindergarten students will be invited to participate in Family Connection visits during the week of September 1-3.

During these visits, PreK and kindergarten families will be meeting individually with their students' teachers for Family Connection visits.

These visits, part of the state’s WaKIDS transition to kindergarten process, are intended to support a partnership between families and schools as young learners begin their school journey.

On September 7-8, schools will offer PreK-K Connects, a chance to deepen partnerships and support families who can choose to schedule individual meetings with their student’s teacher, other building specialists, or administrators. They can discuss instructional plans and supports for their students, get referrals to resources, and receive coaching on accessing technology.

    JumpStart for Incoming Kindergarten Students

For the 2021-22 school year, the transition to kindergarten for our youngest learners will kick off with Jump Start on August 17 and 18, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Please check with your student's school for confirmation of dates and times.

During these two mornings, Jump Start schools will offer new kindergartners a gentle introduction to their new school building, staff, and peers.

Families at the 62 participating schools listed below will be invited to pick up their district-provided iPads and/or hotspots, meet the principal, and engage with other families as they drop off and pick up their students.
